Common questions
What if I didn't withhold taxes during the year?
You can still file. You'll owe the employer portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes. Your employee will owe their portion when they file. We'll help you calculate exactly what's owed.
What if I paid in cash and didn't keep records?
Estimate as accurately as you can. Some records are better than none. Bank withdrawals, calendars, and text messages can help you reconstruct payment history.
What happens if I miss the January 31 deadline?
Late filing can result in penalties. The IRS charges $50-$280 per W-2 depending on how late. It's best to file on time, but filing late is better than not filing at all.
Do I need an EIN?
Yes, you'll need an Employer Identification Number. If you don't have one, we'll walk you through getting one — it's free and takes about 5 minutes online.
