Florida Employer Requirements

No state income tax to withhold

Florida doesn't have a state income tax, so that's one less thing to worry about. Your employee keeps more of their paycheck, and you have less to calculate each payday.

Pay into the state unemployment fund

You'll contribute a small percentage (typically 2.7% for new employers) on the first $7,000 your employee earns each year. This goes into Florida's unemployment fund in case your employee ever needs those benefits.

Workers' comp is optional but recommended

Florida doesn't require workers' compensation for household employers with fewer than 4 employees. But it's still worth considering—it protects your employee if they're injured at work, and protects you from potential liability.

What will it cost?
